Blue-ringed octopuses are among the deadliest animals in the sea. Despite their small size, 12 to 20 cm (5 to 8 in), they are dangerous to humans if provoked and handled. Their venom contains tetrodotoxin, which is a neurotoxin powerful enough to kill humans.
